Painter’s Tape Is the Inexpensive, No-Commitment Way I Gave Myself “Extra Space” | Apartment Therapy

One day, in an exasperated effort to reclaim some control, I put down a strip of blue painter’s tape between the living room and the small den attached to it and told the kids their stuff must stay inside the den.

I love this. It’s visual, it’s simple, and it’s something you can do in five minutes with materials you already have. When I lose my patience over something like this, that’s exactly the kind of solution I need 😉

Raise your hand if you forget to eat.

Raise your hand ✋🏽 if you forget to eat! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t, but others in my household do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My kiddo has stayed the same weight for a long time despite eating well at meals. His pediatrician expressed some concern at his most recent checkup. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At first I was like, he has his father’s skinny genes, what do you want me to do!? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then I started observing a little closer. I noticed he often gets super hungry by mealtimes. Hangry meltdowns are inconvenient for me but I suspected they might also indicate a need to re-establish between-meal snacks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *I* do not need between-meal snacks, nor do I need another thing on my to-do list. Plus, we’ve always prioritized self-sufficiency and he’s plenty capable of getting his own snacks. He just forgets. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m currently reading @thefauxmartha’s cookbook, which intensely validates my love for both mason jars and gratuitous labeling. This week I’m channeling some of that energy into a little snack station on the counter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The kiddo visits this area often to get drink glasses and deposit bottle caps (which we use for our token economy). Hopefully he’ll take notice of the tasty snacks in see-through containers and, if he’s hungry, grab himself a little something. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember, many of us ADHDers are out of sight, out of mind people. If we don’t see it, it ceases to exist! My kid loves healthy snacks and will request them, write them on the grocery list, feel really amped about them — but then forget they’re in the cabinet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’ll see if this helps. I’ll report back 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #adhdproblems #adhdmoms #ADHDmom #parentingADHD

Learn the Right Reasons for Your Child’s “Wrong” Behavior

I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot lately. Even adults exhibit more “bad behavior” under stress. Why would kids be any different?

More tiny progress

I reshared my tiny progress post on Facebook this week because the image didn’t post correctly last week. For those of you who got the correct image here the first time, I’ll share the accompanying Instagram post:

The One Thing I Wish I’d Learned Sooner | The ADHD Good Life

It was clear to me that who I was, and how I existed in the world, was somehow not correct.
